She was a mighty ship -
The greatest to ever sail
And at the helm a captain
Who conquered every gale.
The crew a hardy bunch
From every continent and land,
From Timbuktu to Mozambique,
And from Cuba to Pakistan.
On this night there came a storm
The likes no one had ever seen,
The lightening crashed,
The thunder roared,
Then rose a monster from the marine.
The watchman saw a ghastly sight
A giant eye in the blackened night.
An old salt looked up to his surprise
At giant tentacles of every size.
An African who worked the sail,
Looked and saw a giant tale.
One lone Dutchman, just a youth,
Was almost eaten by a pointed tooth.
As so it went,
On down the line,
A different sight
But not a different time.
When it was done, the sun did shine,
Leviathan back in the brine,
They called their captain out to pray
That they had made it to live this day.
But as he went he felt a dread
The crewmen stood up and said,
Pray to Allah.
No pray to Jah!
No pray to Zeus,
To Jesus, To Ra!
A fight broke out amongst the bunch
A elbow here, a kick, a punch.
The captain stared at this woeful group
Then let out a yell to his warring troupe.
STOP!
Take a look at yer selves
And see what be,
Cause a finer crew
You’ll never see.
But what ye saw in this terrible storm
Amongst the whole, not one norm.
Scotty there, he saw a whale
A squid says Patrick, Drunk on ale.
Muhammad claims he saw a shark,
Chow yelled dragon from the dark.
Smitty a serpent and Billy a beast,
Satan for sure if you ask the priest.
So how it is that if we can’t all name,
The evil to this ship which came,
You think that you could call,
The holiest of holy, a being of all?
You give a name to host on high,
Then fight to the death, but for why?
Because you think you know his name?
Your infinite lord is all the same.
The crew went silent
And thought for a bit,
The captain was right
They were sure of it.
So from that day on,
When the waters got rough,
They thought of their Captain
And that was enough.

It's funny. When we think we're wise someone comes along to show us that we are not. Socrates had it right when he claimed to be the wisest for being the only to know the shallow nature of the deepest human knowledge. Now, if only it was so easy to be far enough away from humanity to overlook it’s beauty, yet close enough to individuals to escape their collective wickedness… but how can our vision of humanity be in two places at once? Perhaps this is a question for my therapist…lol
