Walking Mediation

On an autumn walk
A friend of mine
Knelt down next to a muddy pond
And said to me,

“See this dirty water,
This is humanity.”

He then scooped a handful
And said to me,

“See this clean water,
These are the individuals.”

I nodded and understood.

We continued on our hike
And climbed slowly upward
Until we arrived at the top
Of an old mountain.

I pointed down at the muddy pond,
Which now reflected the blue,
Open sky above.

He nodded and understood.
